Where oh where, did my little boy go!?

Well the first picture is K's new school picture. I put up last year's because of the difference a year makes. Somehow, while I wasn't looking of course, Little K changed from a little boy to a boy. So I should probably stop calling him Little K. He will always be my baby, but I can't (and really wouldn't want to) stop him from growing up. Speaking of this, we both spent just over a week apart from each other for the first time. Mind you he was three before I went out to eat without him and I have only spent one night away from him in just over 7 years. It was very hard on me, but he handled it beautifully. As we were deciding if he should go on this trip with his dad, K asked me if I would cry. I said, yes I probably will. He responded with, "so long as I don't have to see it. I will be back." So that pretty much set the stage. I did cry, alot. As soon as I pulled away, I wanted to drive right back and take him out of the truck and bring him home. But my rational side knew he needed time with his dad and we did not have any daycare options lined up for the four days he had off of school. K only cried a little the very first night, from then on he was fine. I was much better after the first day and night, but it was still hard to be here alone in the house. I spent as much time at school as I could, didn't complete many projects, but spent a lot of time on them.

A Day Off

As you can probably tell if you read the previous post, life is a little hectic around here. The stress level in our home most weeks is off the chart. I feel like it is finals week, every week. This is pretty hard on both K and I. Unfortunately when I am stressed I am not very patient and sometimes not very kind. So I decided we were going to take the day off today. Not that I haven't done some studying, housework, and grocery shopping. But it was very little of all of it. We did drive down to Wahpeton to go to the Chahinkapa Zoo. A friend said it was a pretty good little zoo. K loves to go to the zoo and the drive would be nice, so I figured why not. It was a very relaxing afternoon. We visited the zoo, went to the park, walked over to the pond and watched some kids feeding the ducks and geese, and then watch a family of skateboarders in action. K has really been getting interested in skateboarding. A friend even let him ride his the other day at the park. I am a little apprehensive, DH say it can be pretty hard on the body. So at this point I don't know, I think I will leave it up to DH. He has way more experience with this than me, he used to board when he was younger. But for today, it was nice, really nice.

Holy Buckets! Back to School

Right after we got back from our trip school started. I started right away, we returned on Saturday, I started Monday. K didn't start until Wednesday. Wow, scheduling alone before classes started was difficult. I am currently using three different day care options, just so I can attend class! As if that wasn't enough, I had about four assignments that were due before classes even started. This year is crazy, that is why my posts are so late. On Mondays I drop K off at school at 8 then I try to head to school to study.(or try to very quickly get caught up on things undone at home) Classes start at 1:30 and go until 6:30, my classes on this day are Cardiovascular/Pulmionary, Neoplastic Disease, and Contemporary Pharmacy. I pick K up by about 7 from his after school daycare, a friend's of K's mom watches him for me (which is really nice because all daycares that can pick up from school close at 6). Then we get me something to eat, he gets fed at his friend's house, and head home. We then work on his homework, then mine, and I try to prepare for the next morning. On Tuesdays, I have my Pharm Care Lab at 8, I drop K off at the at school early morning daycare by 7:15. I am done with lab at 10 and work in the library on homework until 2. I have Infectious Disease and then Rheumatology/Endocrinology. I pick K up at the daycare by 6, head home to feed us both, work on K's ey therapy for an hour to hour and a half, do his homework, then mine. On Wednesday, I only have Pharmacy Law from 8-9, but now also have group meetings to work on all the group projects we have this semester (at least I have an awesome partner for most of these!) So K is either dropped at the early morning daycare at school or he rides the bus. The bus is a whole ordeal in itself and I am not sure we are going to keep up that option. Anyway, homework, therapy, everything else after classes. Then on Thursdays, I drop K off at school at 8, usually head to school myself to study, classes start at 2. I have Infectious Disease and Cardiovascular/Pulmonary. Thursday afternoons are the same as Tuesdays, pick K up by 6, etc. Then on Fridays I drop K off at the early morning daycare at the school by 7:15, my classes start at 8. I have Pharmacy Law, Neoplastic Disease, and Pharm Care IV. Whew, just typing about it makes me tired!
Now for K's school. He is in second grade this year and seems to like his teachers. The second week of school he just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. A fellow classmate grabbed him by the throat and tried to put his head in the toilet! We freaked out, but K handled it all in stride. That evening he said, "Well at least I am a nerd, I have my own bully!" We were told that this was not an attack on K per say, but it was still frightening as parents. K now uses a private bathroom, but still has this child in his class and some small groups. It was K's decision as to whether this child got to stay in one of the small groups. He said yes, as soon as this child sits down, K gets up and moves to the furthest seat away from him. But all in all, I think K handled it very well and we are very proud of him. We worry alot as parents, he is not of ND breed and is one of the shortest in his class. To top this off, he is behind in school academically. So we worry at him being the target of bullying. K is now in vision therapy as well, he attends a session with the eye doctor weekly and we try to work on it at least 5 days a week at home as well. We are hoping that by the end of therapy his eyes will work together as a pair and he will make better progress at school.
