I received a phone call from my brother-in-law on the 22nd, he had called to ask if I had my raft ready. He said that Fargo made national news because of the predicted flood. I blew it off thinking it was no big deal, after all when we first moved here there were several flood warnings and it didn't seem to change anything. To be truthful with a five-year-old and school I don't get to watch much other than cartoons, so I was not fully informed either. When I arrived at school on Monday the 23rd they announced that school was cancelled so students could volunteer to sandbag. I went home and starting researching, it was definitely a big deal. We are in a safe zone, so other than ground-water seepage (none so far) into the basement we are in good shape. I actually helped with the sandbagging on Tuesday, but starting Wednesday there was no school for Little K either. We still are not back in school, maybe next Monday, depending on what happens. The river crested at a record level, breaking the 112 year old previous record. It is coming down, but we have had more snow and possibly another storm this weekend. There is a second crest predicted in mid-April, but no estimate on how high yet. So the story is not over yet, but we are safe and the community has pulled together in amazing ways. Anyway here is a link to some photos from the area. There is a lot, but they are pretty good so even if you just look for a little while, they tell their own story.
