Mother of the Year!

I know that I am a little behind, but I want to post these memories and school is done for the semester as of this morning. So maybe, I will get caught up. K and I flew to Salt Lake City for Thanksgiving Day (yes the day, we got there the evening before and left the morning after). It has been almost four years since we have seen some of our family (I had three grandchildren I had never seen!) So we got up really early, like 2am to drive to Minneapolis. Everything was going so well, I even got out ahead of the storm! Once we were there we were delayed boarding, because the ramp apparatus was frozen and the couldn't get the other passengers off. Eventually that got fixed and we boarded the plane, only to be delayed some more because the plane's potable water was frozen. So we ended up taking off about an hour late, which meant that we were arriving in Denver about two minutes before our next flight was to take off. They kindly asked those passengers not catching a connecting flight to wait and let us off first. So thinking we might make it (nobody told us we wouldn't) I told K to run! We had landed about 20 gates away from where we were taking off and the first clock I saw said 12:09. Our flight was to take off at 12:10. So for those who don't know I am morbidly obese and running is not something I do on a regular basis. So picture a fat woman with a bulky coat and a big backpack running through Denver International Airport. I know security people watching on monitors must have been rolling on the floor laughing (I would have if I could breathe). So here comes the mother of the year award winning move. I went to give K a little nudge to encourage him to go as fast as he could. Unfortunately, I ended up pushing him to the floor face first! Yes, now I know security was laughing. To add insult to injury we arrived at the gate to be told that yes the plane was taxiing down the runway and that they closed the door to boarding ten minutes before the plane takes off. So we had not even landed at that time! Wow! So not only did I throw my child to the ground and about give myself an acute myocardial infarction, it was all in vain! We made the best of it and rode the trains for the next two hours until the next flight.
